Andrew Carnie is a notable contemporary visual artist with a global exhibition footprint, based in the UK.
An emeritus fellow at the Winchester School of Art, Southampton University, Carnie’s work focuses greatly on the intersection of art and science. In fact, he has even written a blog focused on just that.
While he frequently collaborates with scientists, his creative approach remains broad and unconstrained by specific media, adapting his methodologies to the context and themes of each project. Though drawing, painting, and sculpting are cornerstones of his practice, his expertise shines in video, projection, and installation art. Carnie creates immersive environments that captivate with compelling subjects such as heart transplants, metabolism, and neurological conditions; as well as encourages viewers to explore their world through a scientific lens.
Carnie’s academic career includes studies at Goldsmiths and the Royal College of Art in London and a PIcker Fellowship at Kingston Universit. His work has received support from esteemed organizations such as Arts Council England, and the Wellcome Trust. His art has been showcased in prestigious venues, including the Science Museum, London; the Natural History Museum, Rotterdam; Exit Art, New York; The Great North Museum, Newcastle; the Daejeon Museum of Art, South Korea, and many others.
His most recent exhibitions have been in museums and galleries worldwide, such as the Brain Observatory, San Diego; Kunsthall Charlottenborg, Copenhagen; the Spencer Museum of Art, Kansas; and the Science Gallery, Bengaluru.
